My name is Sara, I am 19 years old, and I am currently a sophomore at New York University in New York City majoring in environmental science. My father is an active alcoholic and has been all of my life. I also have a loving and well-intentioned mother and a brother, with whom I have a somewhat rocky relationship. My father has verbally abused me and my family for as long as I have been alive and he continues to try to manipulate all of us like he has always done. I have also experience, and witnessed, some physical abuse in my home. I realize that this is part of his disease (i.e. his alcoholism) but I can't help but have a lot of anger toward him. I know I have a lot of issues that are a result of the abuse that went on in our home. I have recently decided to attend therapy in an effort to tackle these issues. I intend to chronicle my thoughts and experiences during this journey in this blog. Feel free to read and comment on my entries and do let me know if you can relate.
